WHAT IS AN ASSET?
An asset is a resource owned or controlled by an individual, corporation or government with the expectation that it will generate or can be converted into cash.

1. STOCKS
Stocks, or shares of a company, represent ownership equity in the firm, which give shareholders voting rights as well as a residual claim on corporate earnings in the form of capital gains and dividends.
Individual and institutional/ organizational investors can invest in these stocks or shares via the stock or the share market.
Earlier people had to physically go to the stock exchanges for buying and selling of stocks or shares. Nowadays it happens electronically through online mode.
Examples of stock exchanges include the National Stock exchange (NSE), Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) etc.
Share prices depend on the demand and supply of the market.

2. INDEX FUNDS
An index fund is a type of mutual fund or exchange-traded fund (ETF) constructed to match or track the elements of a financial market index.
While index funds and ETFs are generally considered low-risk investments, this is only when compared to individual stocks & shares.
The S&P 500 Index, the Russell 2000 Index, and the Wilshire 5000 Total Market Index are just a few examples of market indexes that index funds may seek to track.

The second way to earn profit from bonds is to sell them at a price that's higher than what you pay initially.
It is somewhat similar to debentures and must not be confused with it.
